// The Trade
$40 of credit toward studio time, per hour worked. Skilled trades (carpentry, electrical, scenic paint) earn 1.5× — $60/hour.
A studio shoot day is $4,000. So 100 hours of standard rate = one full day. Skilled-trade hours get there in ~67 hours.
Yes. Credit is good for 12 months from the day you earn it. After that, expired hours roll off the ledger.
No. WTF! credit only redeems against studio time. If you want paid work, ask about regular crew positions.
// Shifts
Anywhere from 4 to 10 hours depending on the day's workload. We don't call you in for less than 4. Lunch breaks are unpaid (uncredited).
Weekly schedule goes out Sunday for the week ahead. You signal availability in advance, supervisors stack the schedule, you confirm.
No-shows void that shift's credit (you weren't there to earn it). Two no-shows in a year and the program ends for you. Life happens — call your supervisor, they get it.
No experience required for most shifts — we'll train you. We provide all tools, PPE, and supplies on-site. Bring closed-toe shoes, clothes you don't mind painting.
// Booking your shoot day
Three weeks minimum. The studio calendar fills up fast for paying clients, so the earlier you can lock a date the better.
10-hour shoot day on Soundstage 1: cyc wall (white & green), full grid, 600A power, soundproofed. House lighting + cyc wash included. Anything specialized (additional gear, set dec from catalog) bills separately.
Yes — bring whoever you need. The day is registered to you, but you run the shoot. We provide one studio assistant from our staff to help you plug in.
// Admin
No — WTF! is a non-monetary work-trade program. You're earning studio time, not wages. No T4, no payroll. The trade agreement spells out the legal framing.
DC carries general liability covering the studio premises. Members sign a participant waiver at orientation. Bring your own personal coverage for anything beyond.
You need to physically show up for shifts at the studio. So practically, yes — Toronto / GTA, or close enough to commute.
18+. No exceptions — power tools, ladders, insurance.
